So, while in the process of trying to "jump-start" my career, I applied to a bird training internship, and along with the basics of training and zookeeping, you also take courses in basic avian (bird) stuff. And it's paid and includes housing, which is good for a broke recent college grad like me.

Well, as excited as I was about it, I ended up not getting it. Oh, well, just means there's something better out there, right?

Maybe even right there.... Turns out they're also looking for a FULLTIME PERMANENT trainer, with benefits and all. Couple of problems though.

1) Since I'm so broke, I can hardly afford to live on my own, especially half-way 'cross the country. And zookeepers don't exactly make enough to live off of, and need 2nd or even 3rd jobs. Not to mention I'll be starting to pay back student loans in a couple of months.

2) One of the requirements is an experienced trainer. (Which I don't think I have that much of) And a BACHELORS degree. Unfortunately I only have a 2 yr. Pretty bad when I don't meet 2 requirements, right?

And that's what I thought. So I didn't apply. BUT....in the email I recieved saying I didn't get the internship, they invited me to apply for the position. They also said they wouldn't have suggested it if they didn't think I had a chance. ^^

Moral of the story? Regardless of whether I actually get the position or not, it's still pretty impressive to think that I would have a chance. And it definitely makes me rethink about what I do and don't have or what I could qualify for....and to take a chance with.

So, don't limit yourself by what you read on paper or whatever. Whether you have the exact requirements or not, GO FOR IT! You never know, there's ALWAYS a chance.
